Alice Springs & The Red Centre

Direct flights into Alice Springs and out of Yulara on this 9 day tour to one of the most unique places on earth. Alice Springs, a remote desert town 1,028 road miles (1,654 km) north of Adelaide and 954 miles (1,535 km) south of Darwin. The town originated in 1871 as a station on the Overland Telegraph Line. We visit the Telegraph station, now a national park. Alice Springs is also regional headquarters for the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the School of the Air. Other highlights of the area include Desert Garden Park, Hermansberg and the spectacular West MacDonnell Ranges. Forming part of the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park,  Uluru is sacred to indigenous Australians and is thought to have started forming during the Ediacaran Period over half a million years ago. We learn how it was inhabited 30,000 years ago and the wonderful history of the rocks and it’s traditional people and custodians along with the flora and fauna of the area.
